In short

Harrods Health makes private-label shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, body lotion and hand wash for Alberta properties, from Calgary and Edmonton hotels to Banff and Rocky Mountain resorts, in dispensers, 5 L refills, tubes and minis with bilingual labels. Alberta's very dry winter air shapes the brief, and your importer handles Health Canada notification and customs with the data we supply.

This page covers Alberta. For national rules and the other regions, see our Canada hotel amenities hub.

Cities, mountains and long highways

Calgary and Edmonton have downtown, airport and convention hotels serving business travel, energy-sector visitors and events. Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper and Canmore have mountain resorts, lodges and condo hotels that run near full in summer and ski season. Along the highways there are motels and inns serving drivers and trades. In the north, workforce lodges house large crews and buy in bulk.

That mix means very different buyers. Groups and management companies want a signature range across city and resort properties. Franchise owners buy within a brand standard. Highway motels often order through a hospitality supplier, and workforce lodge operators buy large volumes of simple, robust formats.

Property type Formats often chosen What matters most
Calgary and Edmonton city and airport hotels Wall dispensers with 5 L refills Fast turns, consistent supply
Banff, Jasper and mountain resorts Dispensers or branded tubes, rich body lotion Dry skin and hair, a mountain sense of place
Highway motels and inns 2-in-1, simple dispensers, sachets Price per room, easy reordering
Workforce lodges Large dispensers, 5 L refills, hand wash Volume, durability, simple restocking

Formulas for dry, cold air

Alberta's winters are cold and very dry, and chinook winds can swing temperatures quickly. Guests notice dry skin and static hair, so mountain and city properties often ask for a richer body lotion and a more conditioning shampoo or 2-in-1. We adjust the brief to suit and can supply formulas as dermatologically tested, with reports on request.

The same cold affects logistics. Lotions and conditioners can separate if they freeze and thaw, and stock that sits in an unheated warehouse or trailer is at risk. We plan freeze protection for winter shipments, and we recommend heated storage on arrival and ordering mountain-resort stock before the deepest cold.

Scent briefs for Alberta

Mountain resorts tend to choose pine, fir, alpine herbs and warm woods. City hotels lean toward clean citrus, tea and soft musk. Workforce lodges usually want a light, broadly liked scent. We develop signature scents and keep one profile across every product and format.

Labels, packaging and claims

Federal rules apply in Alberta as everywhere in Canada: mandatory label information in English and French, metric net quantity, an INCI ingredient list and the dealer's name and address. We print bilingual labels in-house. Alberta has been introducing its own extended producer responsibility framework for packaging, which can place obligations on brand holders or importers; check the current status with your importer. Resorts inside national parks may also face expectations from the park operator on waste, so ask before you choose formats. Any environmental claim on the bottle should be supportable under the federal Competition Act.

Who does what on an Alberta order

Your importer or distributor normally files the Cosmetic Notification Form with Health Canada within 10 days after the first sale and acts as importer of record. We supply the formula, the INCI list and manufacturing documents, and we check every formula against the Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist. Workforce lodges and city hotels often want hand wash in washrooms and kitchens; we supply it as a cosmetic cleanser with no germ-kill claims, since antibacterial products need an NPN or DIN. We do not make hand sanitizer, accessory kits or slippers, so plan those with another supplier.

Getting product to Alberta

Alberta is usually served through a West Coast port and then by rail or truck inland, the same route as British Columbia. Your importer of record and customs broker handle the CBSA entry and CARM accounting, and GST is generally payable on import. Alberta does not have a provincial sales tax. We ship on treated wood packaging that meets the international standard. See fulfilment and export.

Hotel Toiletries for Alberta and Rocky Mountain Resorts FAQ

Q.Which products suit Banff and Rocky Mountain resorts?

Wall dispensers or branded tubes for shampoo, conditioner and shower gel, plus a rich body lotion. Mountain air is dry, so guests use more lotion than in coastal cities.

Q.Can you supply workforce lodges?

Yes. Lodges usually want large dispensers, 5 L refills and hand wash in a simple, widely liked scent. MOQs are quoted per item.

Q.How do we avoid freeze damage on the way to Alberta?

Ask your carrier and broker about freeze-protected service in winter, avoid unheated storage on arrival, and order resort stock before the coldest weeks. We plan freeze protection for winter shipments.

Q.Do Alberta labels need French?

Yes. Federal rules require mandatory cosmetic label information in English and French throughout Canada. We print bilingual labels in-house.

Q.Does Alberta have its own packaging rules?

Alberta has been bringing in an extended producer responsibility framework for packaging. How it applies to hotel amenities and who is obligated should be checked with your importer or a consultant.
