In short
Harrods Health manufactures private-label hotel toiletries in Ambala, India, and exports them to hotels, lodges and resorts in Africa. We make shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, 2-in-1, body lotion and hand wash in minis, tubes, sachets, dispenser bottles and 5 L refills, printed with your property's own branding.
This hub explains how supply from India works across the continent. Each country guide below then covers the local hospitality context, import basics and the formats that tend to suit it. For our full product range, see hotel toiletries.
Country guides
- Kenya: Nairobi business hotels, safari lodges and coastal resorts
- Nigeria: Lagos and Abuja business hotels and serviced apartments
- South Africa: city hotels, game lodges and wine-region boutique hotels
- Tanzania and Zanzibar: safari lodges and island beach resorts
- Ghana: Accra business hotels and guest houses
- Mauritius: island resorts and spas
What we make, and what we don't
We focus on liquids and creams: shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, 2-in-1 hair and body wash, body lotion and hand wash, plus spa massage oils for hotel spas. We develop signature scents so a property's bathroom smells the same in every room.
We do not make dental kits, shaving kits, sewing kits or slippers. Most African buyers source those separately and combine them at their own warehouse.
Matching formats to property type
| Property type | Formats that usually fit | Practical note |
|---|---|---|
| City business hotel | Branded minis or wall dispensers with 5 L refills | Dispensers reduce waste and restocking time on high-occupancy floors |
| Safari or game lodge | Refillable dispensers, 5 L refills, some minis | Fewer, larger deliveries suit remote camps with limited storage |
| Beach resort | Premium minis, tubes, body lotion, spa oils | Heat-stable formulas matter where storerooms run warm |
| Guest house or serviced apartment | Sachets or small minis | Low cost per stay and simple storage |
Built for heat and humidity
Much of Africa's hospitality trade sits in hot, humid coastal zones or in dry interiors with wide temperature swings. Product often waits in a container, a port yard or an unventilated store before it reaches a bathroom. When we develop a formula for an African buyer, we discuss viscosity, fragrance load and closures with that journey in mind, and we can share stability considerations for your chosen formats. Store stock away from direct sun once it arrives.
Scents that suit African properties
Fresh citrus, coconut and frangipani work well in warm climates and at the coast. Lodges often prefer earthy, green or woody profiles. Many buyers ask for African botanical accents such as baobab or shea in general terms. We can build a signature scent around your brief and apply it across shampoo, shower gel, lotion and hand wash.
Import rules and labelling
Each country has its own cosmetics authority and import process. In Kenya, the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) runs a pre-export verification of conformity programme. Nigeria requires NAFDAC product registration, and in Ghana cosmetics fall under the Food and Drugs Authority. Elsewhere, ask your importer which national authority applies.
English labelling covers the markets on this hub. For Francophone markets in West and North Africa, labels are usually needed in French, and Portuguese is expected in markets such as Mozambique and Angola. We can print multilingual labels.
Our facility is Halal certified, which helps where many guests are Muslim. Several countries also restrict certain single-use plastics, so check which formats are acceptable for your property. Rules change, so confirm current requirements with your importer or a local regulatory consultant before you place an order.
Shipping from India
Most orders travel by sea freight from India to major African ports such as Mombasa, Dar es Salaam, Lagos (Apapa), Tema, Durban and Port Louis. Landlocked markets are usually served through a neighbouring port and onward road freight arranged by your importer or forwarder. We prepare the export paperwork and packing on our side; read more on our export and fulfilment page.
