In short
Harrods Health manufactures private label scented candles, reed diffusers and room sprays to your brief, for export brands, retailers and hotels. We develop the format, wax, wick, fragrance and packaging with you, then quote per brief. Every project starts with your target market, because labelling and safety rules differ between the EU, UK, USA and Gulf.
What we make to your brief
We work across the main home fragrance formats. You tell us the look, the scent direction and where the product will be sold, and we develop samples against that brief.
- Container candles in glass, tin or ceramic vessels, with or without lids.
- Pillar candles for retail and hospitality display.
- Votives and tealights for multi-packs, gift sets and room settings.
- Wax melts in clamshells or loose shapes.
- Reed diffusers with bottle, reed and closure options.
- Room sprays in bottles and finishes chosen for your range.
We can build a single product or a matched range, for example a candle, diffuser and room spray in one scent. Our guide to developing a private label candle range explains how to plan this.
Wax and wick options, discussed per brief
Wax choice shapes the look, the scent throw and the claims you can make on pack. We discuss soy, coconut blends, paraffin, beeswax and blended waxes with you and explain the trade-offs for your format and market. Read our guide to candle wax types before you decide.
Wick selection depends on the vessel diameter, the wax and the fragrance. We match wicks to each formulation during sampling rather than fixing them in advance. Our wick, fragrance load and IFRA guide covers how these choices interact.
Scent development and fragrance documentation
You can bring your own fragrance, ask us to develop a scent to a brief, or build from our existing oils. We supply essential oils, diffuser and fragrance oils and essential oil blends, which gives you a starting point for scent direction.
Export markets ask for fragrance documentation such as safety data sheets and IFRA conformity information from the fragrance supplier. Hazard labelling for scented products is usually driven by the fragrance composition, so we discuss documentation early. We describe scents in cosmetic and home fragrance terms only and do not make wellbeing or therapeutic claims.
Packaging and decoration
Packaging is often what buyers remember. We discuss vessel colour, labels, lids, sleeves, outer cartons and gift boxes with you. For reed diffusers and room sprays we can source bottles to suit your range, and dried flowers for decoration where the design and safety review allow it.
Decoration placed on or near a burning surface needs care, so we review any embedded items against the format. See our custom packaging page for the wider options.
Export readiness checklist by market
Rules for candles and home fragrance differ by destination. At the time of writing, these are the main points to check. Confirm the current text with your importer or a compliance adviser. This is not legal advice.
- European Union: general product safety under the General Product Safety Regulation (EU) 2023/988, plus CLP hazard labelling and candle fire safety information. Read our EU candle export guide.
- United Kingdom: GB product safety rules and GB CLP labelling, which can differ from the EU. Read our UK candle export guide.
- USA: buyers commonly ask for warning labels that follow ASTM candle fire safety standards, and the Consumer Product Safety Commission oversees consumer product safety. Read our USA candle export guide.
- Gulf and Middle East: country-specific conformity and labelling requirements, often including Arabic text. Read our GCC candle export guide.
- Shipping: heat, breakage and fragrance-related transport documents all need planning. Read our guide to shipping candles for export and see our fulfilment and export page.
Hotels and signature scents
Hotels use candles, reed diffusers and room sprays to give public areas and rooms a consistent scent. We can develop a signature scent to your brief and carry it across home fragrance and hotel toiletries, so the room and the bathroom match. Our hotel candles and signature scent guide explains how to plan a property-wide programme, including where open flame may not be permitted. Many properties choose reed diffusers or room sprays for guest rooms and keep candles for supervised public areas. We discuss these choices with you during the brief.
How a project runs
- Brief. You share the formats, scent direction, target markets, packaging ideas and expected volumes.
- Sampling. We develop samples, discuss wax, wick and fragrance choices, and refine them with your feedback.
- Quotation. We quote per brief once the specification is agreed, including packaging.
- Documentation. We work with you on labelling content and the fragrance documents your importer asks for.
- Production and dispatch. We produce, pack and prepare the shipment to the agreed specification.
