In short

Harrods Health makes private-label shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, body lotion and hand wash for hotels, inns, B&Bs and lodges in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador, with bilingual labels printed in-house. Shipments usually arrive through an East Coast port such as Halifax, and your importer or distributor handles Health Canada notification and customs with the data we supply.

This page covers Atlantic Canada. For national rules and the other regions, see our Canada hotel amenities hub.

Small properties, short seasons, long coastlines

Atlantic Canada has a handful of city hotel markets, in Halifax, Moncton, Saint John, Fredericton, Charlottetown and St. John's, and a long tail of small properties. Coastal inns, B&Bs, cottages, golf resorts and motels make up much of the room stock, and many open only from spring to autumn. In Newfoundland and Labrador, some fishing and hunting lodges are reached by boat or float plane.

Because so many properties are small and independent, distributors and hospitality suppliers play a large role, often serving more than one province. Hotel groups and management companies run most of the city properties.

Property type Formats often chosen What matters most
Halifax and city hotels Wall dispensers with 5 L refills Fast turns, conference and cruise peaks
Seasonal inns and B&Bs Small dispensers, branded minis, 2-in-1 Short range, shelf life over the off-season
Golf and coastal resorts Branded tubes or dispensers, body lotion A sense of place, summer volume
Remote lodges Refills and sturdy dispensers One delivery per season, weight, breakage

Bilingual by habit, not just by rule

Federal rules require mandatory cosmetic label information in English and French across Canada. In Atlantic Canada this matters in practice too: New Brunswick is officially bilingual, and there are French-speaking Acadian communities in several provinces. We print both languages in-house and can give scent names that read well in each. If your range also goes to Quebec, check its extra French-language rules on our Quebec page.

Damp summers, cold off-seasons

Coastal humidity and salt air are hard on paper labels and cartons. The bigger risk is the off-season. When an inn closes for winter, leftover stock may sit in an unheated building, and lotions and conditioners can separate after freezing. Move stock into heated storage before closing, or order closer to opening. We choose label stock for damp conditions and plan freeze protection for winter shipments.

Scent briefs for the East Coast

Coastal properties often choose sea air, salt and driftwood-inspired notes, wild rose, bayberry-style greens and fresh citrus. City hotels prefer clean, modern profiles. We develop signature scents to your brief and keep one profile across every format.

Packaging, plastics and claims

The federal single-use plastics regulations do not list hotel toiletry bottles, but provincial and municipal rules can differ. The Atlantic provinces are at different stages with extended producer responsibility for packaging, which can place obligations on brand holders or importers, so check the position in each province you sell into. Under the federal Competition Act, any environmental claim needs proper support.

Who does what on an Atlantic order

Your importer or distributor normally files the Cosmetic Notification Form with Health Canada within 10 days after the first sale and acts as importer of record. We supply the formula, the INCI list and manufacturing documents, check formulas against the Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist, and print labels with metric net quantity and the dealer's name and address. Hand wash is a cosmetic cleanser with no antibacterial claims, as those would need an NPN or DIN. Whether complimentary amenities qualify for any labelling exemption is not something to assume; check with your importer or a regulatory consultant before you finalize artwork.

Getting product to Atlantic Canada

Shipments usually arrive through Halifax or another East Coast port, then move by truck, rail or ferry. Your importer of record and customs broker handle the CBSA entry and CARM accounting. The Atlantic provinces use harmonized sales tax, so ask your broker how tax is accounted for on import. We ship on treated wood packaging that meets the international standard. Hotel Toiletries for Atlantic Canada Hotels and Inns FAQ

Q.Can you supply a distributor serving several Atlantic provinces?

Yes. A core range in dispensers, refills and minis suits suppliers who serve inns, B&Bs and motels across the region. MOQs are quoted per item.

Q.What should a seasonal inn do with stock over winter?

Move it to heated storage before closing, or order closer to opening. Lotions and conditioners can separate if they freeze in an unheated building.

Q.Do New Brunswick properties need special labels?

Federal rules require English and French on mandatory cosmetic label information everywhere in Canada. New Brunswick is officially bilingual, so guests will expect both.

Q.Which port serves Atlantic Canada?

Usually Halifax or another East Coast port. Your customs broker handles the CBSA entry and CARM accounting.

Q.Are hotel miniatures allowed in Nova Scotia or PEI?

The federal single-use plastics rules do not list hotel toiletry bottles. Provincial and municipal rules can differ, so check locally before choosing formats.
