Holiday-led, from city to reef

Queensland's accommodation is shaped by leisure travel. Brisbane has a growing mix of city hotels and serviced apartments. The Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast are dominated by holiday apartments and resort-style hotels with family guests and long stays. Further north, tropical resorts, reef-gateway towns and island properties operate far from suppliers, often with limited storage and supply by barge or small vessel.

Who buys in Queensland

Holiday-apartment buildings are often run by on-site managers or management companies, who buy for many owners and watch cost per stay. Resorts frequently buy direct and want a signature scent and branded bottles. Regional motels and smaller properties usually buy through hospitality supply distributors. Island resorts plan orders around their own freight schedules, so larger, less frequent orders of 5 L refills tend to suit them. We quote MOQs per item for each.

Heat and humidity

Queensland ranges from subtropical in the south-east to tropical in the north, with hot, very humid wet seasons. That affects storage and packaging more than the formula: storerooms can run warm and damp, cartons soften, and label adhesives need to suit the conditions. We choose closures, labels and outer packing with the route and climate in mind. If storage space is tight, tell us, and we can size cartons to suit.

Scents for resort guests

Queensland briefs lean towards bright, tropical and refreshing scents: lime, coconut, lemongrass, frangipani-style florals, ginger and sea-air accords. Resorts often want a signature scent that guests link with their stay, while city hotels prefer cleaner citrus and green tea. Native-inspired notes such as lemon myrtle appear in many briefs. We can match a brief or develop a new scent and carry it into lobby and pool-area hand wash.

Sunscreen, reef claims and other rules

Guests at coastal resorts ask for sun protection, but sunscreens can be regulated as therapeutic goods by the Therapeutic Goods Administration, and we do not make sunscreen. The same caution applies to hand wash: we position it as a cosmetic and avoid antibacterial claims. Be careful too with environmental claims such as "reef-friendly" or "biodegradable"; Australian Consumer Law prohibits misleading claims, and the ACCC has published guidance on environmental claims.

• Your importer, as introducer, generally must register with AICIS and categorise the introduction; we supply full INCI lists and composition information.
• The mandatory cosmetics ingredient labelling standard requires INCI names, generally in descending order. Whether complimentary amenities are exempt is not clear-cut, so check.
• Several states are phasing out single-use plastics, and some have signalled that small hotel toiletry bottles may be included. Check current Queensland rules.

Most consignments arrive by sea through the Port of Brisbane, with onward road, rail, barge or vessel legs to northern and island properties.
