Hainan is China's tropical island and its main beach-resort destination. Sanya's bays hold a dense cluster of resorts, and other coastal towns host leisure, golf and wellness properties. Formulating for a tropical resort

Heat, humidity, sea water and sand change how guests use toiletries. Shampoo and shower gel need to rinse well and feel fresh; conditioner helps hair after salt water and sun. A light body lotion that absorbs quickly suits the climate better than a heavy cream. We do not make sunscreen, which is a special cosmetic in China, so any after-beach lotion we make for you is a general body lotion. Keep its claims modest and agree them with your responsible person, because efficacy claims must be substantiated. Packaging also needs to cope with humidity, so we choose labels and closures with that in mind.

Spa ranges with an Indian character

Resort spas are where an Indian manufacturer has a distinct offer. We hold an AYUSH licence and make Ayurvedic and Indian-inspired spa ranges, including massage oils, that can sit alongside a resort's room amenities. Each ingredient still needs to be acceptable under China's cosmetic ingredient rules, so we review the ingredient list with your responsible person before development goes far. A spa range in the same scent family as the room amenities gives guests a single, recognisable experience.

Scent direction for island guests

Resort guests often welcome scents that feel like a holiday without being heavy. A soft lotus, a fresh bamboo or a green tea with a citrus lift suits rooms. Jasmine and osmanthus can work in the spa, where a warmer note is welcome. We develop signature scents to your brief and can keep them identical across your resorts in other countries.

Hainan's free trade port policies

Hainan is being developed as a free trade port, with special customs, tax and trade arrangements introduced in stages. These policies may affect how imported goods are handled, but how they apply to cosmetics bought for hotel use depends on the current rules, the product's classification and the importer's status. They do not remove the need for NMPA filing or Chinese labelling. Check the current position with your customs broker and responsible person before planning around any special treatment.

National rules still apply

Under the Cosmetics Supervision and Administration Regulation, overseen by the National Medical Products Administration, imported general cosmetics are filed before import by a China-based domestic responsible person. Labels must be in Chinese, with standard Chinese ingredient names and the responsible person's details. We print artwork supplied or approved by you or your responsible person on packaging we make and decorate in-house; see custom packaging. Check how labelling applies to complimentary products. National guidance asks hotels not to actively provide disposable items such as toothbrushes, combs and shower caps, which we do not make; check the local position.

Who buys for Hainan resorts

International hotel groups and management companies usually set standards centrally. Resort owners buy directly for villa and wellness properties. Amenity distributors supply several resorts at once. Hainan has access to capable domestic suppliers, so we are most useful for a signature range shared with your other Asian resorts, a Halal-certified range, an Indian spa range or a second source.
