Two very different markets

Bali is a world of its own: private pool villas, boutique resorts, wellness retreats and yoga stays, many independently owned. Bathrooms are often open to the garden, guests stay longer, and spa treatments are part of almost every visit. Owners want amenities that feel local and look good on a stone basin.

Because many Bali villas are small, independent operations, buying often runs through a local distributor that consolidates orders for several properties. That works well with private label: each villa can carry its own branding while the distributor handles notification, import and delivery for the group.

Jakarta and the other large cities are business markets, with city hotels, serviced apartments and convention properties serving domestic and regional travellers. Here the priorities are consistency, cost per use and Halal assurance, since Indonesia has a large Muslim population and many guests expect it.

Notification with BPOM

Indonesia applies the ASEAN Cosmetic Directive through its National Agency of Drug and Food Control, known as BPOM. In general terms:

• Each cosmetic is notified with BPOM before distribution, by an Indonesian company, usually the importer or distributor.
• The notifying company holds the Product Information File and responsibility for the product. We supply the formula, specifications and manufacturing documents.
• Ingredients must comply with the ASEAN annexes, and claims must stay within what a cosmetic may say; avoid wording that implies treatment.
• Label information in Bahasa Indonesia is commonly required for products distributed in Indonesia; a bilingual pack or local sticker is a frequent solution.

Halal in Indonesia

Indonesia has been phasing in mandatory Halal certification requirements for a widening range of products, including cosmetics, under its Halal product assurance law, overseen by the Halal Product Assurance Organising Agency (BPJPH). The detail, scope and deadlines have changed more than once. Our facility is Halal certified; ask your importer how our certificate fits the current Indonesian requirements and whether recognition or registration steps apply.

Both BPOM and Halal rules evolve. Always confirm current requirements with your importer, notification holder or an Indonesian regulatory consultant before ordering.
