Volume, seasons and scale

Spain's hotel market is shaped by large resort hotels on the Mediterranean coast and the Balearic and Canary Islands, many of them busy with families and package holidays, alongside city hotels in Madrid, Barcelona, Seville and Valencia. Mainland and Balearic resorts peak in summer; the Canary Islands trade more evenly through the year. High occupancy and fast room turns make consumption per property large, so refill logistics matter.

Who buys

Spanish hotel chains often buy through central purchasing teams that tender for whole portfolios, while independents use regional hospitality distributors. Resort groups may want one range across many properties, with a separate signature line for flagship hotels. MOQs are quoted per item.

Hot-weather formulas and scents

Guests come back from the beach and pool and shower several times a day, so shower gel and hand wash consumption is high, and a light, quick-absorbing body lotion is welcome after sun exposure. Popular briefs include orange blossom, sweet orange, lemon, fig, aloe, sea-fresh and light florals. We can develop a signature scent for your portfolio and keep it consistent across large runs. Formulas can be supplied as dermatologically tested, with reports on request.

EU rules and Spanish labels

Hotel toiletries are cosmetics under Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009. An EU-based Responsible Person must hold a Product Information File with a Cosmetic Product Safety Report and notify each product on the CPNP before supply. Mandatory label information is expected in Spanish; many resorts add English and other languages for international guests.

Harrods Health is not a Responsible Person. Your hotel chain, importer, distributor or a service provider takes on that role. We supply the INCI ingredient list, formula information and manufacturing documentation.

Packaging and island waste

The EU's PPWR restricts single-use plastic packaging for small toiletry portions in hospitality from 2030. Some national and regional rules, including on the islands, may already go further, so check locally before ordering minis. Waste handling on islands is costly, which is one more reason resort groups are moving to dispensers and 5 L refills. Our custom packaging team makes and decorates dispensers and refill containers in-house.

Keep green messaging precise. EU rules on generic environmental claims are tightening, and the REACH restriction on intentionally added microplastics has transition periods for rinse-off products; we can formulate without intentionally added microplastics.

Shipping to Spain

Orders usually go by sea to a Mediterranean port such as Valencia, Barcelona or Algeciras, then by road, or onward by sea to the Balearic and Canary Islands. The Canary Islands sit outside the EU VAT area and have their own indirect tax, so your importer should plan for that separately. The importer of record clears goods using an EU EORI number, and your Incoterm decides who pays freight, insurance and duty. Summer resorts should place orders well before the season. Chains with many coastal and island properties often standardise one bathroom range, then use a signature line in flagship hotels.
